FreeAgent Theater+ HD media player ST905004CEA2E1-RK

FreeAgent Theater+ HD media player is a new device released by Seagate. FreeAgent Theater+ HD media player ST905004CEA2E1-RK comes with FreeAgent Go 500GB, a USB 2.0 portable external hard drive. You will be able to enjoy content provided by Netflix, YouTube, vTuner and Mediafly.

Seagate's no-nonsense sneakernet movie box--slide in a 2.5" external drive or thumbdrive and press play--gets a bump to 1080p in the new edition. Previously reviewed here in its 720p incarnation, the latest FreeAgent has a second USB port and HDMI output to boot.

It also supports HFS+ (i.e. OSX) formatted drives in addition to NTFS and the FATs, and comes with some media management software if dragging and dropping AVI, MOV, VOB, ISO, DIVx and Xvid files is too challenging.

Pros:

  • Plays audio and video formats with great results;
  • Plays YouTube videos well;
  • Detects HDD and Media fast!
  • Nice Menu interface.

Cons:

  • Cant have more then 100+ Videos on a HDD without it messing up the list. It names them wrongly and goes crazy if I scroll fast and overall does not work if it has more then 100+ Videos on my HDD and view them with the main Videos Icon on the interface. Have to go to devices then usb then view them by folders on a WDTV did folders automatically.
  • It does not power down external HDD when on off mode.
  • Does not save prefrence to keep list view over thumbnail view after shutdown.
